November ’19 – Net Worth and monthly update #15 £539,998 +£5,592

Christmas is looming fast and we had another busy month on both the work and home front.

The run-up to Christmas on the home front is always manic, as you might expect with six kids in the house.

I also had quite a bit of extra sorting out this month with our rental properties, on top of all my regular work.

I had to find a new tenant for one house, which meant some work in repairing, redecorating and cleaning up after the last tenant left. A boiler in another of my houses gave up the ghost and had to be replaced, and I had to arrange buildings insurances and gas certificates for 3 of my properties, as well as all the general maintenance and usual tenant issues.

What can you say about us rich greedy ruthless Landlords with nothing to do but watch the money roll in!

Moving on, we had a positive month on the figures with just over a £5k increase, and in particular, breaking the £10k barrier on the matched betting with a £1000 bingo win!

  1. Managing your own rental properties seems like a lot of hustle to take on when having 6 kids, regular work and match betting.

Have you ever considered hiring a property manager or agency to take care of your rental properties or is it not cost worth it?

  2. It took me to my early 50s to have my “lightbulb” moment. Fortunately by luck have an ok DB pension from 60 so saving frantically into my works D.C. scheme to retire at 55.
We have 3 rental properties that we manage ourselves. We meet and interview each prospective tenant and up to now all has gone well.
My oh retired at 49 from the police and is loving retirement. He plays 7 a side 3 times a week, does weights regularly and is fitter than he has ever been.
I can’t wait to retire so I have more time and energy than just my weekly Park Run and weights session.
Never done matched betting but might give it a go after I have retired.
