May ’19 – Net worth and monthly update #10 £504,531 +£69,688

Pension Hunt

April saw an Easter egg hunt, May saw a pension hunt.

Quickly looking back on May my mind goes blank to what we have actually done this month, apart from discovering a large pot of money stashed in pensions from previous jobs that we had 20 to 30 years ago.

On deeper reflection, however, as always in the FU household, there is plenty happening.

Our second born, FU#2, has just finished the 3rd week of her GCSE’s with just another week to go. I can’t remember exams going on for a month back in the 80’s.

We had to laugh when we asked how her history paper went… she cooly replied , “pretty much rewrote history.” and walked off. She’s got the spirit of Boudicca, and I suppose the victors always write the history books!

We set up our caravan in the Yorkshire Dales for the season and we are now just waiting for some good weather to arrive. We aim to get many long weekends there over the summer months. This may be our last year on a seasonal pitch as the kids (FUs#3-6) are starting to complain about going now they are getting older. Once they get to 13/14 they want to be with their friends/boyfriends/girlfriends.  (FU#1 and #2 won’t go anymore.)

The time you have with your kids flies by, and before you know it they are not interested in being with you anymore, after age 12 onwards I would say, especially now with social media influences.

As parents, it seems that we are now merely here to serve as servants, cooks and chauffeurs to our children. The phrase ‘it’s not a hotel you know’ seems to be uttered by us with increasing frequency nowadays. Mrs FU and I are quite stoical about this and know that this is the way things happen. Children don’t want to know you in their teens but will come back to you in their mid/late 20s, maybe.

Enough of the self-pity, onto the figures.

Main Home Mortgage £90,600 (£90,950)

Loans, Debts and credit cards £160,026 (£160,850)

Overall Net Worth has increased this month by a massive £69,688.

The increase in our net worth this month is due to the discovery of 2 old work pensions that Mrs FU and I had.

Also, not included in the above net worth figure is a teachers DB pension Mrs FU didn’t realise she had. This will pay out about £4k per year, meaning it would theoretically increase our net worth by another £100k based upon the 4% rule.

As this is such a big discovery for us I plan to do a 2 part post on this so I won’t go into much more detail in this update.

Main home and rental property values are unchanged at Q1 2019 figures and will be updated when Q2 figures are published, calculated using the Nationwide House price index calculator.

SIPP Dividends paid May £194 – 2019 ytd £608,  Av. £122/m (2018 £1306,  Av. £108/m).

Other Monthly/weekly goals

Matched Betting  +£553 this month (+£230 last month)

Total to date since starting 19m ago £7435 Av. £391/m (£6882 to last month Av. 382/m) means we made £553 profit this month, broken down as follows.

Casino/slot offers to date £2107 (£1789) = £318 profit this month

Each way sniping to date £88 (£83) = £5 profit this month

Normal match betting offers £230 profit this month

Slightly better again this month compared to last month. Good profits made on slot offers and getting better on normal match betting offers. Still struggling to get into EW sniping but we did place a lot more bets that didn’t really make us much money.

Diet and Fitness – Hovering around 75kg and 20% fat, but getting back into regular training now.

eBay/selling – Mrs Fu has been clearing out old clothes and has made around £50 this month.

Thanks for reading.

Great news about your discovered pensions and in particular, Mrs Fu’s old DB pension! That’s guaranteed income which you won’t have to worry about when the time comes.

Well done on the MB this month, I had a poor month, am hoping the EW betting will come good but like investing, needs long term and nerves to ride the variances.

Yes, great news on the pensions which has really boosted our figures.

Keep going on the EW betting, your winnings will arrive I’m sure. Mrs FU has had a bit more luck on it this weekend.
If we can continue to make over £500/month on MB we will be quite happy.
